Connecticut Family Photographer

documentary family photography that tells the story between the poses

“Rebecca was there but not there — calm, unobtrusive, and somehow she managed to capture our family exactly as we are. For once, I actually love the photos of myself.”

— Ali, a mom of three littles who wanted family photos without the pressure of posing.

That’s why I love what I do- photographing families who want to be witnessed, not posed.

Most of my work is documentary family photography, which means I photograph your family as you naturally interact rather than directing a series of poses.  That said, I also offer shorter, guided portrait sessions for families who want something more guided! Some Connecticut families love the slower pace of a documentary session, while others prefer a short portrait session — both are options.  If you’re not sure which is the right fit, I’d love to help you decide.

Do you only photograph documentary family sessions?

Documentary family photography focuses on real moments rather than staged ones. Instead of asking your family to perform for the camera, I photograph the way you naturally spend time together — playing, cooking, reading, walking outside, or simply being at home.  The result is a gallery that reflects what your family life actually feels like.  A Connecticut Family Photography Session often take place in your home or somewhere that already feels part of your everyday rhythm.

If you’d like a few images where everyone looks at the camera, we can absolutely include that!  This is all ironed out during our pre-session questionnaire so that we're on the same page.   Families who want mostly guided portraits may prefer one of the shorter portrait sessions.  See the session comparison here!

What if we also want a few posed photos?
