For families who care more about being together than looking perfect.

more about working together

You're the family that stops mid-walk because someone spotted a caterpillar. The kids would rather climb the tree than pose in front of it, and you're not trying to change that. You find that most of the moments you treasure are ones you couldn't have planned for. You're raising kind, curious kids and building a life that reflects what you actually value. You know your children are changing in tiny ways every day, and you want to remember the texture of their childhood: the routines, the relationships, the in-between moments that turn out to matter most.

more about me

connecticut family photography

A photo of people lined up and smiling will never feel as alive to me as the in-between moments.

Think about some of your favorite photos of the people you love. Are they posed? Or are they the ones where someone was mid-laugh, or completely lost in a moment they didn't know was being captured? I'm a documentary photographer based in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut, and my work is rooted in that difference. I am always looking for the beauty between the poses.

If you're looking for a family photographer in Connecticut, you probably have some questions about how documentary sessions work and what to expect. Here are a few things families ask me most often.

Frequently asked questions

What is documentary family photography?

What is documentary family photography?

Documentary family photography focuses on real moments rather than staged ones. Instead of asking your family to perform for the camera, I photograph the way you naturally spend time together - playing, cooking, reading, walking outside, or simply being at home. The result is a gallery that reflects what your family life actually feels like. Sessions often take place in your home or somewhere that already feels part of your everyday rhythm.

What are your favorite Connecticut family photo locations?

What are your favorite Hudson Valley family photo locations?

I don't have one favorite, it really depends on your family. Some people love an open field at golden hour, others prefer a favorite local trail, and plenty of families do their whole session at home. If you don't already have a spot in mind, I'm happy to suggest a few based on where you live and what feels most like you.

What should we wear for family photos?

What should we wear for family photos?

Honestly, the short answer is show up in whatever you'd normally wear, no planning required, and it'll be perfect. But if you'd like some guidance, I have a full post on it here: what to wear for outdoor family photos. A few quick pointers: comfortable, coordinated without matching exactly, and true to how your family actually dresses.

What if my kids don't cooperate?

What if my kids don't cooperate?

With documentary photography, there's not really anything to cooperate for. I'm not directing anyone into stiff poses, I'm capturing what's actually happening, whatever that looks like. Even for the more posed sessions, my prompts tend to be more like little games or activities than "everyone look here and smile." Even if you want that classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera shot, and a kid melts down along the way, that's not something I see as a problem to fix, it's just part of the story of the day. My main focus is making sure everyone feels calm and has fun, that's what actually shapes how the photos turn out.

When is the best time of year for family photos in connecticut?

When is the best time of year for family photos in the Hudson Valley?

Any time of year can work, it really depends on what you're hoping the session to feel like. Summer brings long light and lots of energy, great if your family is naturally outside a lot. Fall has that warm color and softer light everyone loves. Spring is great for green fields and new growth. Even winter can be beautiful if you're drawn to something quieter and more intimate. I'm also a fan of in-home sessions any time of year, since they capture your family's actual daily life rather than a season.

What if we also want a few posed photos - or actually prefer a more traditional session?

What if we also want a few posed photos - or actually prefer a more traditional session?

Not a problem at all. If a handful of portraits matter to you, we can build those into a documentary session. And if you're looking for something more guided altogether, a classic outdoor family session, great for holiday cards, I offer that too. You can see all the session options and pricing to find what fits your family best.

i look forward to telling your story

I photograph families, new babies, and celebrations across Connecticut and bey0nd. Most of my sessions take place in your home or a location that already feels like part of your everyday life. Whether we're documenting a Saturday morning in your kitchen or a milestone your family has been looking forward to, the goal is always the same: photos that feel like your real life, not a version of it you had to perform.
